I finished my Flower Basket Shawl! I used Millefilli Fine Print in the blue colorway, and it looks *so nice*. The store only had three balls of the dye lot left, so I was a little short and had to fudge the edging, but it's still a good-sized shawl and awfully pretty.

I'm also working on a Tim doll for [livejournal.com profile] stephl, but my sewing machine is being a bitch, so I'm having to sew most of it by hand. It's getting there, though! I think I might be done this week. And I'm starting to spin up that gorgeous hand-dyed alpaca blend roving I got back in May. I think it wants to be another shawl.

I think I'm gonna stand well back of the current brouhaha engulfing DCU fandom. I mean, my default state is pretty much "lurking at the back of the room, writing crossovers and wacky AUs" so it's not like I'll be doing much *different*, but... yeah. Though I do have one observation: In JSA, Johns has a pretty good track record with female characters: Hawkgirl and Dinah are good, Peej has had a couple of fantastic issues, and Courtney gets to have braces, a B-cup and sensible shoes. Meanwhile, over in Titans, Cassie's been turned into a Miss Teen USA contestant. What the hell, Geoff?

By HAND?!? Good god, woman! (See, to me, that sounds like uphill both ways in the snow, with cardboard boxes for shoes and no DSL waiting at home. Perhaps sewing Timbo by hand isn't as hellacious as I'm imagining. I get the vapors when I contemplate sewing a button back on.)

Also -- Timmay!!! MY Timmy!!! ::dance of dorky fangirl glee::

I will honor your sewing Tim by hand with my as-yet-unposted Timmy GIP from Nightwing #110.

Perhaps it has something to do with who he thinks is buying JSA versus Teen Titans? Alternately, he had a cowriter on JSA until two years ago. Alternately alternately, since Courtney is based on his dead sister, possibly she's more likely to be a "real person" version of a teenage girl than someone like Cassie is? No clue, man

Yeah, actually-- I was talking about it with LC, and it occurred to me that might make a difference in the art, too. Since no one is going to want to draw Geoff's dead baby sister in gratuitous T&A poses.

Well, it's felt, which is a *lot* easier to sew by hand than regular fabric. So it's slower going than on a machine, but faster than it would be with other fabric. And I'd have had to do a lot of the fine detail by hand anyway, so don't worry!

This is not a defense of the meta reasons for cheesecaking up Cassie Sandsmark, but within the story wasn't it revealed that she was the daughter of Zeus? Traditionally demigod heroes tended to grow up with the looks working for them. (Well, those that didn't get turned into monsters by scorned Queens of the Gods, anyway...)

True! But I think she got cheesecake'd well before that storyline, unfortunately; she was sporting the new, skimpier costume and cheerleader hair from the first issue of this run of Titans.

well i'm sure i'll be wearing it pretty much nonstop as soon as the temperature is slightly cold-ish, so as long as i run into you sometime this fall/winter it'll be straight.
