Saw GoF last night! We went to the 10:30 showing at the Uptown, for which we arrived at, uh, 6:30. Well, Roomate #1 and I work right down the street. People were still lined up for the 7:00 show when we got there, so once we picked up our tickets we got dinner, then came back and got in line. There were >15 people ahead of us. The group in front of us seemed very cool-- several of them were Firefly fans, as it turned out-- and the giant group of high-school girls, most of them in costume, that got in line behind us were surprisingly endearing. Roomate #2 and her boyfriend joined us after an hour or so, making things yet more fun. Three hours in 33-degree cold is still three hours in 33-degree cold, though, no matter how pleasant the company.

Highlights:

The lady selling homemade Snitches made of styrofoam, glitter, and feathers. I bought one and put it on my hat.

The pack of high-school-age girls acting like the roomates and I knew what the hell we were talking about, about anything.

Realizing that Roomate #1 and I were basically the only people in our section of line who were neither graduates nor current students of Blair High School. Seriously, those people are *everywhere*.

Getting to talk about Firefly a whole bunch.

The doors finally opening, and half the line starting to cheer once it did. Then, for some reason, they stopped letting us in after ten seconds, and I yelled "NEVER MIND!" to the line behind us at the top of my lungs.

Sprinting up the stairs to the balcony when the doors *finally* opened for real-- I mean, literally sprinting, despite the fact that we were loaded down with coats and scarves and the entire snack-food contents of the CVS across the street-- and claiming the coveted front-row balcony seats.

Eavesdropping on the people in the row behind us, who were complaining about a movie they had seen recently that had gotten great reviews, but that they had really disliked, despite everyone else in the theater seeming to love it. Once one of them mentioned that they "though it was based on a TV show, or something," I turned around and said "Are you guys talking about Serenity?" I tried really really hard not to sound like One Of Those Fans, but I think I might have scared them off anyway.

Getting to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Duh.
