I only got two things, but *gosh*, they're nice things.

1. A dark blue ankle-length broomstick skirt (not tiered, just very crinkly) with embroidery and mirrors around the hem.

2. A star-shaped glass lamp, the kind you put a candle in, that looks brand new-- it even had a sticker still on the back. The little panes of glass are all different colors, but it still goes nicely with the clear glass one I already have (also from the thrift store).

I also almost bought this... thing, that looked kind of like a gun, in that it was gun-shaped and had a wooden stock, but with a really skinny barrel, and whatever used to go inside the stock is now missing. Another shopper theorized that it might have been a lighter, once; what it mostly looked like was an excellent prop for a Firefly costume, and on those grounds I decided to buy it. But it didn't have a tag, so I couldn't! Tragedy!

I think I need to make a habit of going weekly, and only buying the things I really really love. Last week I got close to a dozen spools of vintage ribbon in a bunch of really cool prints, but I also ended up with a bunch of stuff I don't really want because it was in a grab bag with the stuff I *did* want. At least I kept myself from buying a bunch of fabric grab bags that I really only liked one piece of fabric from.

The other fun thing about the thrift store is going with a friend who shares your "wander randomly until you're pretty sure you've seen everything cool, then go back and check" thrift shopping style. And when that person is teenier than you, when you find cute clothes that don't fit you, you can pass them on to her! I did this last week with a *stunning* blue silk cheongsam that I am *still* sad didn't fit me, and this week with a very cute orangey skirt with a print of big, cartoony pink and green flowers.

Things I wanted to find but didn't: cookie cutters, fabric grab bags containing more than one piece of fabric I liked, cereal bowls, craft books.

Things I hope find a home, though not with me: an alligator skull, a stack of watercolors all painted by the same moderately talented but clearly dedicated amateur artist, what appeared to be the World's Ugliest Kimono (with matching... shawl thingy!), and, the crowning glory, this. The photo really, really doesn't do it justice; I think parts of it were *holographic,* for the love of god. I... the closest I can come to capturing it in words is to say that it might be what gay samurai will wear in the distant future, when they go on long space journeys.
