Jan. 17th, 2006 12:40 amI just read Peter Pan for the first time. I've seen all the movie versions, of course, and I had a 19th-century children's literature phase in fifth grade or so, but somehow I had never read this one before. I wish I had, now, because I would have loved it even more than most of what I read back then-- it blows Heidi and Five Little Peppers and How They Grew straight out of the water, and ends up right alongside A Little Princess and Alice in Wonderland with my favorites. It's just lovely and perfect, and don't think I could get Barrie's voice out of my head right now if I tried, not that I want to. It's interesting, seeing all the details that have been left out of the various adaptations, and all the ones that have been kept, and how wonderful and strange the Neverland really is.
I'm very, very glad I finally read this book.
