So I bought this total monstrosity of a dress at the thrift store recently, mostly for the massively-sleeved bolero jacket that came with it (I have Dragoncon costumes to plan for. Don't judge me), and I have been trying to determine the best thing to do with all this fabric. I had settled on dyeing it a nice dark blue (it's currently ivory), so I went over to Dick Blick to figure out the best sort of dye.
Which is where I came across this: a brand of dye that's made for throwing in the washing machine with whatever you're dyeing. Um, how had I not heard of this before? This is genius! Holy crap! My theoretical steampunk costume just got 800 times easier.
