a skirt!

Yesterday at the thrift store I spotted a bedsheet with a pretty butterfly print, and thought to myself, self, that would make a nice skirt. So I bought it, took it home, and turned it into a circle skirt! Circle skirts are incredibly easy, especially if you put on an elastic waistband. I hand-sewed mine, and it still only took about three and a half hours, two and a half of which were hemming. Basically you just cut out a big fabric donut, slap on a waistband, thread some elastic through, and hem for a million years, and you have a skirt! I am very pleased with the outcome-- it is extremely good for twirling.

In other news, my main fannish activity continues to be watching Classic Who and mocking the costumes. As much as I enjoy this pastime, I am feeling the need to branch out a little. Any recs for things I should really be reading or watching?

I recommend Martha Wells' Cloud Roads and Serpent Sea. Remarkably creative, smooth adventurous storytelling, and emotionally satisfying. Good stuff.
