In my defense, at $85 it was a STEAL. AND I get free delivery and two free chairs!

...now I just need a house to put it in. On that front, I have found a lovely house in Mt. Rainier that I am hoping will be mine as of March 1. It has a huge living room, a breakfast nook, and four bedrooms that are actually bedroom-sized for $2k a month, which, again, is a steal. Hopefully everything will work out and I will secure housemates and so on. Wish me luck!

That's an adorable table that's a classic, and looks in wonderful shape, too!

What I like best about that table is that the enamel/melamine/modern substance top is supported by a structure that looks Victorian. Which means you'd be able to throw it down a flight of stairs and it would be fine at the bottom. So much of the 50s-6s style of furniture just isn't (or doesn't look) sturdy, but that one has the styling and would also stand up to a stiff wind.

Delivery off Craigslist is key. Even when I am in possession of a car, I am often willing to pay to make someone else carry my new stuff up the stairs.

Yeah, I've wanted an enamel-topped table for years, but a lot of them just have chrome hairpin legs and they look a little flimsy. The ones built on a wooden base are much nicer, and usually a little older-- I would guess this one is 30s or early 40s.

Is that a drafting table, or do the panels expand to make it bigger?

It's a drop-leaf breakfast table-- you can make it bigger by pulling the two side panels out. There might be a drawer underneath as well.

The reason it was so cheap is that it's an estate sale leftover-- you can pick up stuff for a song that way, even if you can't make the actual sale. I saw the ad after the sale, emailed the guy to ask if he still had it, and made an offer. I've gotten some great stuff that way!

Congratulations on your soon-to-be very nicely furnished house! I'm incredibly déclassée and thought that was a particularly pretty beer pong table at first, then realized you probably wouldn't have bought one of those.

Well, if I *were* going to have a beer pong table I would obviously have a vintage one.
