evadne_, I just want you to know that in my sociolinguistics class today, we were discussing word pairs like "marry/merry" and "are/our" and my professor wrote "Don/Dawn" on the board and every time I looked at it, I almost burst out laughing. And I hate you. That is all.

No, wait, actually, it's not, because after class I was talking to him about the study we looked at in class, which was done in 1972, and I wondered if maybe one of the reasons that young people had weird results in it was that they used the bizarre early-seventies slang I have seen in old Teen Titans. And then we got into a huge conversation about comics and slash fandom and things, and it was awesome. So, okay, the hate is revoked.
