Okay, that was *terrifying*.

I was in the shower just now, and started getting dizzy, and just as I went to turn off the shower and grab my towel before it got worse-- well, I don't know *what* happened, because the next thing I knew I was on the *floor*. I must have blacked out for a second, or slipped, or something, and I don't really know or *care* what it was so long as it *never happens again*. Oh my god. I stumbled back to my room and spent the next several minutes *freaking the fuck out*, and I think also hyperventilating for the second time in my life, ever. Then I called Shachar, who made soothing noises and gave me an orange. I'm not sure why. Possibly it will prevent low blood sugar, and also scurvy.

But seriously. Oh my god. That was so goddamn scary. And now my whole left side is gonna be one big bruise.

Yikes. ...could be low blood pressure. Keep yourself well-hydrated and fed. You should get yourself checked out.

To make you not feel better at all: my coworker's best friend pulled the same sort of thing in the shower, and he hit his head and died! ...so, uh, go to a doctor.

Health Services closed... five minutes ago. So that's waiting for tomorrow. But I think I'm okay. The orange helped.

One of my friends blacked out randomly on the subway, and it turned out to be low blood pressure. Get a good dinner in you tonight, lots of fluids, take it easy.

Oh, yikes! My friend did that thing once, but she had the flu and hadn't eaten for three days. I'm not sure what's going on for you, but yeah, you should probably see a doctor. And make sure you're eating...

I think it's a food thing, because I have, admittedly, been living on junk food for the last couple of days. So, nutrition it is.

As everybody else has said, take care of yourself. If the shower was particularly hot, that would also have contributed.

Trust me, I'm an expert on passing out. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on getting doctors to do anything about it. (Witness the fact that I've been passing out around once a week for the past four months.)

Oh, jeez, Derry. I cannot *imagine* being able to deal with that.

Luckily, my dad's a doctor, so I have at least one on my side. Of course, he's a podiatrist, but that's at least a *start*.

I agree, it sounds like low blood pressure -- the hot shower could have exacerbated that, too.

If you start feeling dizzy again, =sit down= immediately, even if you have to get down on the floor. Much better and less embarrassing than falling, right?

Well, it doesn't look like the dizziness is coming back. Thank GOD. So that's okay.

I passed out in the shower at college. Under certain conditions if your blood sugar is low and the shower is hot, all the blood flushing to the surface of your skin can give you a low blood pressure faint.

It's not uncommon, so don't freak out. But do check in with the school doctors.

Oh, good. So, we can probably set aside the "brain tumor" scenario.

And, yeah, doctor, first thing tomorrow.

Man, I hope you're okay. If you need fruit/anything, I can bring you junk if you need it. If you need a ride to the doctor or the hospital or junk, I've got a car, though there are probably people you know better for that sort of thing.

Yikes, though. Feel better.

I think I'm okay for right now. But thanks.

Have you considered the possibility that you're merely about to metamorphose out of your pupal stage?

Just a thought.

Seriously...that worried me. And I would not have known about the blood pressure thing and would have just been worried about you.

It's always nice when scary things can be explained like that.

...but eat something that isn't junk food. Jesus Christ.

could it possibly be stress related?

one time i started violently vomitting and passed out because i had a horrible anxiety attack (yes, i had waited until the day before to write a 15 page paper, but i digress) and my blood pressure was so low they couldnt take it.

I think it was stress + terrible eating habits + hot water. Not the best combination, and one I'll try to avoid in the future.

Hopefully it was just a combo of momentary low blood pressure and the hot water, but I'm crossing my fingers the doctor doesn't find anything more worrying.

Echoing what others have said about sitting down immediately (even in the tub) if you start to feel woozy. Even if the lapse in consciousness isn't dangerous in and of itself, falling onto a hard surface while unconscious can be very, very risky.
