Jan. 31st, 2005 07:36 pmPart 1 is here. It occurs to me that I'm gonna need a title for this thing, if I'm gonna finish it.
"So you're really serious about, you know, getting the band back together?" Cissie said, shooting a sidelong glance at the girls at the other end of the table. Greta wondered if the cafeteria was the *best* place to have this conversation, but they'd already started it, and Cassie looked like she had something urgent to say.
"Greta, this isn't a good idea," said Cassie. "I'm sorry, but it's not. I know you like Tim, but--" Greta shook her head impatiently, cutting Cassie off.
"It's not *that*," she said. "Oh my *god*, you guys, what do you *think* of me? His *dad* just died." Cassie and Cissie didn't look *nearly* ashamed enough, as far as Greta was concerned. "He's our *friend,* and I haven't seen him in *ages,* and I don't want to leave him *out*. If I could invite Anita, too, I *would*. We should *all* do more things together."
There. She'd said it. She'd been thinking it since she *lost* her stupid powers, and now it was out in the open. Since Young Justice broke up and the Titans re-formed, Cassie had been leaving her and Cissie farther and farther out of the loop-- heck, by now, poor Traya probably didn't even know there *was* a loop, and Anita had probably forgotten about the existence of loops entirely. And Greta was *sick* of it.
"*If* he says yes, which is so up in the air it can *fly*, we'll go as friends. I got over that crush a long time ago, you know." Which was entirely true, and had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Tim was, still and always, really cute.
Ciss and Cass looked relieved at that, and more than a little chastened by Greta's outburst. "Okay, Greta," said Cissie. "You know, I think it might not be such a bad idea. Getting him out of Gotham--"
"--Bludhaven," Cassie corrected.
"Bludhaven," Cissie picked up smoothly, "can't possibly *hurt*. And who knows-- it could be fun."
She didn't look like she believed it. But Greta did, and she figured that was what mattered. As long as she could make Tim believe it, too.
Up next: Greta makes the scariest phone call of her ENTIRE LIFE.
