Date: 2006-01-11 04:34 pm (UTC)It depends on where she's staying and how much she wants to spend. You can easily come up with about 10 great choices per neighborhood.
Are they going to be closer to downtown? The Haight? The Castro? The Mission? North Beach? The Tenderloin? Are they roaming all over?
I'll just throw some of my favorites out.
Ti Couz - authentic Breton style crepery in the Mission at 16th and Valencia. Not just crepes but lovely salade de mer and desserts. Delicious and affordable.
Chow - One in the Castro, one in the Inner Sunset. Very very good homey/Italian food, and quite affordable. They serve my favorite dessert in the city, a warm gingercake with pumpkin ice cream drizzled in caramel sauce.
Helmand - One of the best restaurants in the city, but still affordable. Afghani food. Get the baked pumpkin, or the Aushak (a kind of large ravioli with leeks in it in a yoghurt sauce) or anything with lamb. This is in North Beach.
Michelangelo's Ristorante - Also in North Beach. Go here for one reason - the Cioppino. A very San Francisco dish, cioppino is an Italian seafood stew in a garlicky, tomato base. Includes crab, mussels, shrimp, white fish - pretty much the catch of the day.
