help me, hive mind, you're my only hope!

As some of you may know (I have no idea whether I've mentioned it before or not, sorry), I am moving! Only a couple of miles away, but to a pretty little house with hardwood floors and a dining room and an attic! Where I live! This is very exciting.

The only trouble is, that attic, while *wonderful*, has a peaked ceiling-- the walls are vertical to a height of about three, three-and-a-half feet, and then slope until the ceiling, which is only about a foot wide and low enough that I can reach up and touch it. There are also two lovely little nooks for windows. But my dilemma is, how do I decorate when the walls are at an angle? Posters look kind of silly, and framed things won't lie flat. How do I pretty up this room, with so little vertical space to hang things?

Have you thought about fabric? I have some sari scarves which I had hung to cover windows in my last apartment, and now hang on the walls. Very pretty, rich colours available, and I think they'd look great on an angle, especially if you let them billow a little.

ooh. Good idea! I thought about making some big patchwork hangings, to give the room a tent-y sort of feel, mut that sounds *much* easier.

We have a room that's the same shape (ARE YOU LIVING IN OUR NERD HOLE, YOUNG LADY!?!?!) and it's tough. About all we've come up with is to decorate the hell out of the end walls, which are kinda trapezoidal rather than square, but at least they don't tip over halfway up; and to paint boldly (to boldly paint...?), on the theory that even if we can't hang things on big swaths of the walls, they have more visual impact than blah white. Of course, that assumes that you can paint -- it's worth asking, at least.

Sadly, no, we can't paint, but I think I'm gonna try to make some interesting wall decals, since I can't afford the ones I want (http://www.whatisblik.com).

Find a fabric you love -- the classic solution is Indian cotton *grin* -- and thumbtack it to the slopy walls.
