So I just heard a very strange series of noises outside, which can be best described as thumpthumpthump crash hooooooooooooooonk, followed by shouting, and I ran outside to see what was going on.

Turns out someone had stolen an SUV, taken off with it with its owners in hot pursuit, sideswiped a bunch of cars all the way down my block (that was the thumpthumpthump), and plowed headfirst into a tree in my neighbors' yard (that was the crash hoooooooooooonk). Then the car theif tried to do a runner, but was prevented by the car's owners, who hung onto him until the police arrived. And, I suspect, got a few kicks in before they had to hand him over. I came outside a few minutes before the police got there, and stood in the cold with a guy from down the block who'd been outside smoking, and made cracks about how this was like being on COPS.

Uh. My life is weird.
