May. 2nd, 2006 02:01 pmOkay, so. I got a job at Ann Taylor Loft at Tyson's. This is a good thing: I need the money, as the expense of the Disney World trip is catching up with me, and I am super broke; also, I only have another month or so before Maret's school year ends and I need something to replace it with.
However. Oh my god, retail is *exhausting*. I worked three hours Saturday and *nine* on Sunday, and I was about ready to *drop* after that. I know this is going to make me sound soft and sheltered and upper-middle-class, but I have never had a retail job before, and I had NO IDEA. I've had jobs that had long hours, and jobs that required me to be on my feet for most of the day, and jobs that entailed a lot of carrying heavy crap, but never all at once, and the combination is *sort of terrifying*. There's no way I'd be able to do this more than two or three days a week. No WAY.
On the bright side, 40% discount, and they *do* have cute clothes, and I appear to actually be pretty good with people. But I am so so glad that I have another part-time summer job lined up, one that I get to do sitting down, because otherwise, AUGH.
Also, as always, Maret parents need babysitters, and that will hopefully continue to be my source of cash. This actually works pretty well: babysitting covers my day-to-day expenses, ensuring that I have cash on hand for small purchases, and that way I only need my debit card for the big stuff. And apparently there are always a couple of families who don't realize they're going to need a nanny for the summer until the last minute, and my boss at Maret has promised to pass my name on to anyone she knows is looking.
Oh! Also. I read His Majesty's Dragon a couple of weeks ago, and just picked up Throne of Jade the other day. ( Mild, mild spoilers, I swear. )
