So I've been kind of on the MIA side lately, huh? Um. Does it help that I have spent most of that time knitting?

I'm starting to think the lack of anything I'm *really* fannish about is a problem. I have no real appointment TV, comics make me want to kill roughly twice as often as they make me happy, and, well, I never really saw the point of movie fandoms. Not enough canon, people!

I'm intermittently watching SPN, SGA and Heroes, but I'm not really finding any of them, you know, compelling. Sigh. Maybe when Doctor Who comes back I'll feel better.

In the meantime, I seem to have fallen in love with Discworld again. Not that I ever fell *out* of love with it, just, you know, man. Discworld is awesome. I... may be writing fic. I would certainly appreciate a decent map of Ankh-Morpork, as it would be really beneficial to the theoretical fic, if anyone should have a link to one. Um.

Also, I've just started reading "Master and Commander," which I've never read before and quite like, but that thing is happening where my brain starts to think in the voice of whoever I've been reading. Which is exceptionally confusing when about one word in three of that voice is a bit of nautical terminology I don't understand.

Fandoms I should be getting into would be much appreciated, along with any commentary on why Discworld is awesome. Because, man, it really is.

It is a /good time/ to be a His Dark Materials fan. It really is.

If you long in your heart for more nautical goodness, go read the Horatio Hornblower books.

I've heard that "House" is good for fandom, but I only see random episodes. It sure /looks/ like a good fandom. I enjoy the show quite thoroughly when I manage to sit down and watch it. I like Wilson.

If you happen to find any good sci-fi fandom holes to fall into, let me know. I fell in love with Firefly largely because of you, madam, and I am severely lacking in ornery space cowboys.

Well, there's always Farscape! Although that's not so much "cowboys" as "people in space who really cannot make plans." But still very worth watching!

I think I just need something currently-running to be engaged by, and really only TV and comics can provide that. I am sort of intrigued by Battlestar Galactica, but it's so damn *bleak*. I mean, it's unquestionably good, but I require a little more whimsy from my genre. You'd think SGA would therefore be perfect, but apparently not.

My roomates watch House and Grey's Anatomy and so on, but one is a procedural and the other is a soap opera, and I can't abide either unless they're in space or have superpowers or *something*. I do like Scrubs, though.

here's a link to the map of Ankh Morpork that Stephen Briggs and Terry Pratchett released a few years ago

Soul, when I was listening to Patrick O'Brian on tape while commuting, I came very near to using the phrase "I should like it of all things."

Discworld is, in fact, awesome. I do so love Vimes.
