Oh, hey, I... never wrote a Yuletide Santa letter, did I? Well, I suck.

Just in case: The two comics fandoms I requested, if you need it, have a bunch of relevant posts on [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. Top Ten posts here, Astro City here.

I love superheroes a lot, in case you can't tell, and I especially love all the tropes you get to play with when you tell a superhero story-- the mad science and sentient robots and secret identities and things. I especially love superhero stories that keep their sense of wonder-- like, I understand why Watchmen is an important book. I understand why it's a *good* book. It's just that the stories I love, and return to again and again, are set in worlds that preserve the wonder and hope that I look for in superhero stories. Top Ten-- especially in Forty-Niners-- and Astro City are both books that do an amazing job at that stuff.

Both these comics are fictional universes I want to roll around in forever and ever, they're so much fun. I actually kind of like them better than DCU these days, because they're like the greatest hits of 60 years of comics publishing without all the crap that inevitably comes with 60 years of actual comics publishing. The Forty-Niners, especially, is one of my all-time favorite comics, and that's as much about the world as it is about the fantastic characters. Um. And the WWII aerial aces in love. That also helps. Oh, and Frank! Poor Frank.

As for Stardust: I kind of class fairy tales with superhero stories, in my head, in terms of the kinds of stories you can tell with them, although of course there's a very different set of tropes available. Stardust is just a really good damn book, is the thing, and if you're planning to write a Stardust story I'm sure you already know why, and there's not a lot of advice I can give you.

I like gen, het and slash, although I lean gen-wards most of the time unless there's a *really* compelling pairing. I like canonical pairings, too, which I'm aware makes me a weirdo. Sorry this letter is so late in coming.
