... although now I'm starting to think you should. Huh. That was... not *good* exactly, but went in a bunch of directions I wasn't remotely expecting. And they were *interesting* directions.

So, John's (augh, another John) elderly, down-on-his-luck black friend? The one who had me rolling my eyes so hard I got a headache during the pilot? Is his *son*. Which, man, I was not at ALL expecting. And apparently John's current bout of must-find-my-Twu-Wuv is something he's been through a bunch of times before-- with Omar's mother, with his old secretary's mother, with who knows how many other women.

So that means that all the cynical death wish crap is, in fact, crap, which is good, because that shit is boring. Also, this time the period costume was *much* better, probably because they didn't have to wory about facial hair. And apparently we will be getting a new flashback era every week, which, sigh, means I will be continuing to tune in.

Stuff I was not so much into: the entire murder plot, which was REALLY predictable, and the dumbass move of bringing your tiny great-grandson along on your murder investigation.

But the flashback plot was pretty great, especially since last week I found myself bitching at the TV throughout the montage of potential Twu Wuvs because all of them were white.

Best moment: the great-grandson suggesting that John try cutting off his head to see if that kills him, and John's kind of hilarious "Ooh, good idea! I should try that!" tone in response. See, the death wish works if you play it for comedy!
