the kitten saga continues

My roomate found a fourth kitten in the backyard this morning. This one is tiiiiiiny-- like two-thirds the size of the others, which I guess is partly due to missing out on the two days of feeding up the others got from my neighbors, and partly due to inherent tininess. He's dark gray with a white nose and chin, and one white leg.

I don't have a picture of the new one, but I did get pictures of the other three yesterday!


This is one of the ones that needs a home. He's the most talkative and active of them-- lots of trying to climb out of their box and meowing piteously when he can't manage it.

Here's three of them, very blurrily. The one you can't see as well is the biggest, who my neighbors are thinking of keeping.

OH - and further notes. Pls to disregard if it's redundant. I'm not completely confident, since the pics are blurry, but I'd put them at around 6 weeks old, or maybe a few days less -- ideally, you'd want them with momcat for another couple of weeks, but they'll survive without her at this point; plus, for ferals, it's a good window for getting them socialized to the humans.

With the new arrival, the focus should be on getting its weight up and keeping it warm -- I suspect that you're right that a lot of the problem is time without feeding, and even a few days of stress can be really bad at this age.

Have they been to a vet yet? They've generally got a lot of fostering experience, and they'll know what to look out for as potential trouble signs, plus things like appropriate vax schedules. They may even have leads on soft-hearted people like me who are closer to you.

They can't figure out solid food yet, so they're definitely under 4 weeks-- my neighbors are feeding them formula with droppers.

Tinycat has its siblings to keep it warm, fortunately, and my neighbors are feeding it up. I have a friend who works at a shelter, so I'm gonna check with her to see if they can wait a few days for a vert visit or if it's urgent.

Local vet or pet store has feeding bottles and special dry formula for kittens, to mix with water.

When we rescued the Rupert/Buffy/Tommy/Willow crew, we bottlefed them for about a month. (See icon)

And you need to keep the first one, too. CUTIEHEAD! Besides, two together from a litter is a Good Thing.

Seriously, DO IT. They'll wrassle and play and sleep in a kittenpile and keep each other amused, so that you won't have to.

I went and checked with the rental types -- pets are allowed, but there's a pretty hardcore waits-for-a-few-months restriction right before you move in. There is also the matter of convincing the housemate (cough cough) to let me get one, too ... I think you're better off seeing if you can find another caretaker.

But god damn it, they're so cute.

Okay, so, talked to the neighbors and they are *not* going to be home tomorrow night, alas. I think they want to wait until the kittens are big enough to be separated now, also.

okay, that's understandable -- and it gives me a little longer to get a kitten space my computer room cleaned out, since that's the only room with a door that reliably latches shut against my adult cats. :) please do keep me in mind! although they are adorable and i will understand (woefully) if you cannot give one up.
