state of the me
Apr. 12th, 2009 05:43 pmSo I really should have gone for a bike ride today, and made a trip to the thrift store; instead, I have lounged about in my pajamas. In my defense, babysitting last night was kind of exhausting: a family I frequently sit for hired me to kid-wrangle their dinner party, so I had eight kids to contend with.
I have to move at the end of the month, which is both a relief and a significant source of stress. My current house is a craphole and I'll be glad to see the back of it, but I really like the neighborhood, and I still don't have concrete plans for where I'm moving *to.* If I don't find a new house in time, I'll move in with some friends who have a spot opening in their apartment, but I don't want to stay there long term-- it's a bitty apartment in a mugging-prone neighborhood-- so I'd have to move again in a few months. And I HATE moving.
Bookstore job continues to be okay, but not great. It's totally worth doing just for the awesome old books I get to bring home, but it's such a new business that there are major aspects of the place that just aren't well-run. The business model consists of buying books in bulk from Goodwill, sorting out the resellable ones, and listing them on Amazon and alibris and so on, which is sensible; unfortunately, this model only works well for recently-published books that have barcodes. The older books, of which there are a LOT, are just kind of piling up, and nobody who's in charge seems to know what to do with them. I find this kind of ridiculous, because, um, awesome old books! This is like leaving giant heaps of money sitting around the warehouse, isn't it?
Watched the Doctor Who Easter special earlier today. That was fun! Um, can we all stop groveling at the Doctor's feet now? I mean, he is awesome! I totally agree! Just, you know, Rusty, you are starting to resemble Geoff Johns and his mancrush on Hal Jordan. This is not a good thing.
Also: Dreamwidth. I am SO THERE, as soon as public account creation opens. Or I get my hands on an invite code. Ahem.
