I'm about halfway through pin-curling my hair, and I'm taking a break, because-- see above. I also have this problem while French braiding. Pin curls are magic, though: I pin up my (dry) hair before bed, tie a scarf around my head, and go to sleep. In the morning, I wake up, take out the pins, and inside of ten minutes have pretty, pretty, 1940s-y hair. [eta: I talked about the haircut last week, didn't I? Doy.] I even seem to be having some luck keeping the frizz under control-- this is my first try with some new anti-frizz stuff, so we'll see if that works.

In fannish news, I have seen new!Trek twice and, in my usual contrary fashion, have latched on to Sulu and Chekov to the exclusion of all else. Well, Uhura is awesome too. And Scotty. But mostly Sulu and Chekov. I kind of feel, watching Kirk, that I am seeing a vastly doucheier version of John Crichton on my screen. I am aware that this is because of a big recursive loop wherein Crichton subverts Kirk and I guess now Kirk subverts Crichton or something, but I still can't get the thought out of my head. I think it's the faces Chris Pine makes when people punch him. They strike me as very Browder-y.

Inorite re:Browder and Pine, I mean, to be honest, I can see where it comes from because both narratives are Western Exploration Frontiers In Space and both characters are your basic Maverick Cowboy Archetype though Chrichton just sort of devolved as the series went on into this semi-insane ball of meta-irony which could only be contextualised as sapce-PTSD for it to make sense to me (though that did make a lot of sense, considering everything that happned to him throughout the series, so I was content to roll with it most of the time) and new!Kirk is a little ball of barely-contained self-destruction and internalised guilt over his daddy's death which makes for a slightly less grating characterisation I find, but that's just because I ♥ woobies and it provides mountains of fodder for various h/c plots about Kirk which I could spend the rest of my life reading and die a very happy woman, and I am excited as to how they're going to exploit it in future movies.

Sorry about that previous paragraph. I should have put a sentence break in there somewhere but between my love of Farscape and my love of new!Trek, I kind of forgot. Anyway, point is, there needs to be a crossover, like now. Like yesterday.

I used to rag-curl my hair, which was similar with the “boy are my arms tired!” but how does one do pin-curls?
