Having a dress form makes this a hell of a lot easier, let me tell you. Basically, you cut strips of foam and pin them into place in the shape you want, then liberally apply hot glue.

Once I had the foam strips pinned into place where I wanted them, I marked lines to use as a guide, in case they moved around while gluing. Then I hot-glued everything together, and added the collar and waist panels.

Next step: painting.

Wooo! That already looks pretty impressive. (I really want a dress-form, now.)

I read a tutorial somewhere that recommended sealing the foal w/ glue before painting, because apparently it can soak up quite a bit?

Eee! Are the three different colours of craft foam random, or are they different weights, or something?

Apparently craft-foam can be shaped, with a heat-source? I imagine you could just take a hair-dryer to it on the dress-form.

(Although, yes, fabric backing seems like a good idea. Maybe something rayon?)
