If you were cleaning out an old house full of junk, some of which had slipped in sideways from alternate universes, what would you want to find?

(So far I have, among other things: nonexistant Beatles record, album of fairy pictures, Confederate money from the 30s, commemorative plates from New Amsterdam and Nova Roma. Need s few more, though.)

The last few novels of the Julian Kestrel series, by Kate Ross (who died before she finished it).

Family photos from an airship cruise.

Pictures of sentient lizards that evolved on another continent, descended from dinosaurs.

Dragons! Or evidence of same, anyway.

not-srevans (11:42:37 PM): galois's notes from his post-duel life
[personal profile] srevans (11:43:02 PM): *wikis* cooool
not-srevans (11:43:42 PM): ramanujan also died too early, so his later notes too
[personal profile] srevans (11:43:50 PM): it's holli's query, not mine :)
not-srevans (11:43:55 PM): mmk
not-srevans (11:44:09 PM): don't worry; i'm sure she appreciates lists of mathematicians who died too early
[personal profile] srevans (11:44:20 PM): she totally should
[personal profile] srevans (11:44:29 PM): i'll be like "listen you need some variety"

Listen you need some variety! If your character doesn't know the mathematicians you can just have her be like "and some notes that looked mathematical from a guy called..."

My friend (whom you may have met; I don't remember) thinks your story sounds pretty cool. :)

Cyril Kornbluth novels from the 60s and 70s. (Kornbluth had a bad heart and died in '58.)

THE LAST NOVEL of anyone who didn't die early, reconstructed from notes (Heinlein, Asimov, Sturgeon ...) Stranger in a Strange Land might be really good for that.

Men's heels (like, size 13)

Socket wrenches that are neither imperial nor metric.

A bicycle with the power train/gears on the left, or a lamp with a switch that turned the wrong way. A left-handed sewing machine.

A copy of The Wizard of Oz with any of the originally proposed actors/casting. River Pheonix's latest movie on DVD (depending on how new this junk is).

A CD player from 1970.

Either a Rosie the Riveter poster with a different face, or a Wendy the Welder poster.
