Truly, the most wonderful time of the year. In addition to two delightful Yuletide stories (more on that in a minute), I got to watch the Doctor Who Christmas special.

I think I loved it. I'll need to watch it again to be positive, but I'm pretty sure. Definitely loved it a hell of a lot more than any of the RTD Christmas specials, certainly.

The thing that's niggling at my brain is that Eleven was, well, sort of ruthless, wasn't he? For all that he was kind to baby!Kazran, for all that he opened up his world to adventure and excitement and friendship, really he was doing it for a very concrete reason: to save the ship. It wasn't about Kazran himself, at all, and I can see how middle!Kazran could have grown bitter if that had occurred to him.

I sort of wish we'd gotten a lot more character development for middle!Kazran and, especially, for Abigail, who's mostly just sweet and nice and good and has a pretty singing voice.

...Man, I'm complaining a lot, considering that I liked it. Okay, uncritical squee time. Baby!Kazran was a darling, Eleven is clearly the best babysitter ever, I laughed till I fell over at the psychic paper and "At last, a lie too big," and the timey-wimeyness of the plot was very, very pleasing. I was genuinely moved by the Christmas Future scene, with baby!Kazran seeing what he becomes and that being what finally changes him.

Also, flyin shark. WTF. The shark-drawn carriage scene was deepy, deeply silly. But I think I like my Doctor Who that way.

Okay, so, Yuletide! I got two whole stories! The Times They Are A Changing, an awesome thinky Pleasantville story, and Nowhere Special, a sly, sweet little Blazing Saddles treat! Go read them, because they are awesome.
