Okay, so is there a 1946 equivalent of a nightclub bouncer, and does that make sense as a job for a time-travel-stranded Clint Barton? If not, what would be better (assuming he's trying to lie low)?

(Yes, I am writing the Clint-and-Natasha time travel hijinks story. Natasha is NOT PLEASED.)

There was a bouncer in Who Framed Roger Rabbit! That's set in the 40s, I think. But the movie was made in the 80s so I don't know if they did their research.

There were nightclub bouncers (bouncer was already the word, even). The Cocoanut Grove, a former speakeasy, had them, for example; I'm not sure about other types of club.

I would definitely buy that for Clint, too.
