Since I've got a magic phone, does anyone have any apps for it that they'd particularly recommend? Not games, because if I started playing iPhone games I'd never stop. But anything else useful.

I just got a slightly-less magic phone (4s), and have been using the following frequently:

- Duolingo (for learning other languages when I'm on the go)
- MyFitnessPal (if you are into the diet/exercise thing very useful - ignore if these set off weasels, etc.)
- Magnatune (for streaming radio that is not evil, and plays a lot of indie artists of various genres. not recommended unless you're using it on a WiFi connection, or it will eat your data plan)
- Unfilth your habitat ("terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes" - the companion to the UnfuckYourHabitat tumblr; app contains cursing)
- Flickr app so I can upload photos directly there (useless if you don't use flickr)
- Skype (for skypeing - I can call the UK from my phone for slightly more than from a computer if I'm on a WiFi connection)
- I have yet to find a great "next bus" metro app, but that's on my list of things to find
- Flight Tracker for planes, bc. I have people that visit
- a Spanish-English dictionary
- Verizon has an app that lets you see how much of your data plan you've used; if you use some other service they might have one too

Begin unsolicited advice that I feel compelled to give:

Also, because my friend works in an Apple store and sees this problem all the time - don't forget to back up your phone to either a computer or iCloud! ^___^

Glad you're enjoying your magic phone!

If you get handed business cards, WorldCard is amazing. Take a picture of the card with your phone, and it scans it, OCRs the text and (following your approval and corrections) puts the information into your contacts.

For people like me who fly a lot or coordinate with airports: FlightTrack (knows what's up with your flight usually before it's posted on the signs) and TripIt. OMG, TripIt is the BEST THING EVER. Sign up, forward your e-ticket to plans@tripit.com, and it automatically sets up your flight schedule on the TripIt App *and then keeps track of any changes.* GLORIOUS.

I've been using Astrid to manage my many lists of things to do and I swear, it's helping me be more productive. And I like Juice for really basic mood/energy/nutrition tracking.

My favourites:

Streaks: for forming habits. You tick each day you did something you're trying to do every day, and the app keeps track of how long your streak of doing that thing is.

Convert: really good unit conversion tool.

Google maps: better than Apple's own map software. It now gives verbal directions.

Downcast: really good podcast downloading software.

Road Trip: fuel/mileage tracker.

Sleepmaker: rain sounds. Or nature sounds, depending on which app you download. I just have the rain version.

Dropbox: it's Dropbox.
PlainText: lets you edit your Dropbox text files.

eBay: it's eBay.

My most used programs are:

Filterstorm for fixing up pictures.
Labelbox because it's fun to label pictures.
Halftone because it's fun to make pictures look like comicbooks.
Twitter
Trillian for all sorts of chat programs
Dictionary.com app
HTML5 for code reference
Convert Units (extremely useful when I'm canadian and mostly deal with americans)
Various baby name programs for naming characters on the go, they're all the same pretty much
Wolfram Alpha is... I'm not sure how to describe it, but it did something like I had to know what killed more, malaria or aids and it gave me the stats instantly. Look it up.
Awesomenote which is excellent for all the little notes and shit I take.
The various book apps are good. I've also got PDF reader.

*skips the game page* I'm going over this by my pages on my ipod.

Tripadvisor's been pretty useful to me.
So has Tip Calculator.
Ancestry has been good for making fictional family trees.

And that's it for my favourite/most useful programs. I figured you wouldn't be interested in education stuff, or my audobon guides.
