My iPod is lonely. I'm in the process of transferring my CD collection to it, but even when that's done I'll probably still have like twelve or thirteen gigs of room left. 7500 songs turns out to be whole freaking lot.

Recommend me something new?

you're right about the huge amount of stuff you can put on an iPod. When my friend got one, she said "John I think there's something wrong with iTunes, see how it has, instead of 12:35:06 for Total Playing Time, there are more digits on the left -- 2:12:35:06!"

I said lovey, that's days. You have two days, twelve hours, thirtyfive minutes and six seconds of music encoded.

We're not used to thinking of music in days, are we?

I'm falling deeply, madly and desperately in love with Nickel Creek these days. They took the Grammy for "contemporary folk" this past year, but frankly, that's a weird label for them. They're a little bit bluegrass, a little bit rock, a little bit folk, and just overall plain old fun to listen to.

Y'know, I always thought of the Folds part as a verb. Like, there's this guy named Ben sitting at the table, and he's got something in front of him-- origami paper cranes, napkins, whatever-- and he folds one, two, three, four, five of whatever it is, there, you're done.

Holli, you should check out The Innocence Mission (http://whatarerecords.com/artist/innocence_mission/main.html), with whom I am newly infatuated. Their music is just so sweet, and clear, and understated, and Karen Peris has an amazing kind of voice.

2 things I do when looking for new music. Go to Amazon and spend some time rating music that I already have and like. Do the same at my radio station at launch.com.

Then theoretically when they suggest or play something that I have never heard before, I can sample it, maybe even download it and spend some time deciding if I like it or not.
