My iPod is lonely. I'm in the process of transferring my CD collection to it, but even when that's done I'll probably still have like twelve or thirteen gigs of room left. 7500 songs turns out to be whole freaking lot.

Recommend me something new?

How can we recommend you something new without you first telling us what you already have?

But, randomly,
  • Bach Cello Suites
  • anything by Jimi Hendrix
  • The new John Mayer, "Room for Squares"
  • Steely Dan
  • Any Phil Spector compilation, except maybe the cheesy Christmas Album
  • Early Rolling Stones, up to about 1970
  • The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
  • Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares, Volume II

you're right about the huge amount of stuff you can put on an iPod. When my friend got one, she said "John I think there's something wrong with iTunes, see how it has, instead of 12:35:06 for Total Playing Time, there are more digits on the left -- 2:12:35:06!"

I said lovey, that's days. You have two days, twelve hours, thirtyfive minutes and six seconds of music encoded.

We're not used to thinking of music in days, are we?

Hee. I don't think I have days yet. Close to thirteen hours, though.

And I have a good chunk of my mp3 collection listed here (http://geocities.com/hollimichele/music.html).

...goes to look at Holli's collection, finds:

Ben Folds Five- Hava Nagila

???
!!!

I don't know if I'd like to hear that or not.

I love Ben Folds -- he lives in Australia now, did you know? -- but I haven't really heard his new stuff since the Five broke up.

He does? Weeeeird.

He's touring with Tori Amos over the summer, though-- I'm seeing them at the end of August. And I love him to death, even though he doesn't really know the words to Hava Nagila.

Y'know, I always thought of the Folds part as a verb. Like, there's this guy named Ben sitting at the table, and he's got something in front of him-- origami paper cranes, napkins, whatever-- and he folds one, two, three, four, five of whatever it is, there, you're done.

Apparently not.

Holli, you should check out The Innocence Mission (http://whatarerecords.com/artist/innocence_mission/main.html), with whom I am newly infatuated. Their music is just so sweet, and clear, and understated, and Karen Peris has an amazing kind of voice.

To really spin your head, consider this: there are only three people in the band.
