Luddites in the family
Jul. 5th, 2003 09:13 pmMy grandmother just called me on the phone. "I was wondering if you could do something for me on the, uh, oh, um, the... computer! Yes, the computer. Do you get the Food TV on-line... thing?"
I said, yes, probably, what was the address? She gave it to me, I looked up her recipe and printed it out. She was shocked at how quickly I had the recipe in hand. Then she asked me to register her for a travel contest on another web site, but they required an email address and she doesn't have one.
I love my grandma. Her awareness of both technology and pop culture seems to have been flash-frozen sometime shortly before Elvis made his debut. I tried to explain posting boards to her once, but I might as well have been talking about the inner workings of Mir. In Russian.
It's kind of sweet, actually.
