Only problem with Photoshop is that I can't figure out how to add fonts. Argh. Anyone know how to do it? It's Photoshop 5.0, which means I have to run Mac Classic to get it to work on my OSX-running iBook. So it's all very complicated.

In the meantime, I'll be making icon bases!

There is a text cursor button in the tools. Double-click it to get to where you decide the font settings. Use the foreground color area to set the desried shade. Click to where you want to type and fill in.

Alternatively, may I suggest Graphic Converter? Works great for making icons, and it runs native in OS X. It's nagware. I made the icon I put on this comment with it.

I know how to put text on a n icon, but I don't know how toadd new fonts to the list of available fonts. It's very annoying-- I could do it on my dad's old computer!

Either you need to move the fonts you want to add into the font folder inside the OS 9 system folder, or you need to invest in font management software (I'd recommend Font Reserve).

I post bits of fanfic and poetry, occasionally. You can read the start of an OC/Buffy crossover (aka "the story that proves holli is a crazy person") if you scroll down a bit. Also, I will have OC icons shortly-- I figured out a way around the text thing.
