I've done a lot of soul-searching, and come to the conclusion that I... am straight.

It's actually kind of embarrasing. In DCU fandom, I may be the least queer person around. And while I dearly love the slash, and am happy for its abundance and quality... I have all these weirdo het pairings that I am COMPLETELY ALONE IN.

When fandom is so overwhelmingly not-straight-- and it *is*, because nobody embraces sexual diversity like people on the Internet-- it genuinely feels strange to be the one who wants to kiss boys, and only boys. I am MAYBE a 2 on the Kinsey scale, if I stretch. The VAST majority of my OTPs are het; obscure, weird het at that. I mean, Stargirl/Captain Marvel? What the hell? Dawn/Connor? Tim/Greta, for fuck's sake!

I am SO NOT KINKY. And it's both weird and kind of cool that this is what makes me stand out in fandom.

(Using my OT3 icon for this, because some things are obvious even to ME.)

...well, it could be worse. At least you didn't decide to take up crack.
Being more well-aquainted with the Marvelverse myself, I can't give much consolation to you because Marvelers are straighter than DCUers, but maybe you aren't straight. Maybe it's just things like having Impulse getting hit on/screwing another person on the team/Kyle getting it on with like Flash that is just so overwhelmingly hot. And if you want to think in absurd ways, you can even go so far as to say that since they're gay, you're attracted to acts of homosexuality, thus you maintain homosexual status.

I dunno. For me, it kind of feels like slash:straight girls::lesbians:straight boys. You know?

And I am SERIOUSLY one of about three people in all of DCU fandom who would RATHER read het.

I love your het pairings. And my het pairings. I'm also, though, one of the straighter people in fandom (bisexual, but prefer the opposite sex).

This fandom, however, is really gay. I mean, really really gay. We are the queerest fandom I have ever been in.

I love your het pairings too. I just LIKE BOYS, is all. I think I wasn't actually *sure* about that until I got into this fandom, if you can believe it-- it's made me *think* about it, and eventually conclude that, yup, boys.

I think most people will still read your het porn, if it's well written; I wouldn't hold my breath on having many others write it. Um... [livejournal.com profile] hradzka wrote Batman / Wonder Woman het, I think.

The saddest thing of all is that it's not even porn, mostly. Like, Billy and Courtney making out in the back of a movie theater is about as close to porn as it gets.

And Billy'd probably snag his tongue on her braces, bless his heart.

You're not alone preferring the het pairings in comics fandom Holli - that's the way I like it best too. I think Stargirl/Captain Marvel was both sweet and potentially very interesting as a result of Jay Garrick's disapproval. And while I pretty much view Smallville and all its slashiness as something wholly separate from the comics, the Clark/Lex in-jokes that have bled over into the print fandom squick me out. (Since I don't think I can be credibly accused of homophobia, maybe it's Superman's stereotypical apple pie image which I bought into a decade before puberty that makes anything other than his being in vanilla flavored love with Lois Lane seem so wrong.)

Heh. While Clark/Lex is both blatant and wonderful within the confines of Smallville, I'm a little freaked out by the idea of Superman having sex with ANYONE. I mean, he's *Superman*. Superman doesn't DO that.

oh my holli, don't worry. being straight is still perfectly normal. many people think it's genetic, I mean look at those examples of hetero pairings in the animal kingdom! we still love you.

Mmm. Dawn/Connor.

That's all I got. Comics fandom not being mine.

(I like het, too.)

You're not alone, I'm one of the straightest people in the fandom, too... I like boys and I'm only interested in boys. When it comes to reading straight-up smut, I do prefer slash (but for myself, I view this as an offshoot of liking boys... if one boy is great, two together is even better!) But I love a lot of het pairings too. Firebrand/Shining Knight, Batman/Wonder Woman, Superman/Lois (like someone else said upthread, I have trouble imagining him having sex at all). Isn't Stargirl/Captain Marvel pretty much... canon?
This is definitely one of the queerest fandoms I've ever been in. I wonder if there's any underlying reason to it?

Stargirl/Cap IS canon, which makes it even weirder. I ship the things that are IN THE TEXT already. No one does that!

I think part of the reason for the queerness of DCU fandom is that a lot of people came here from Smallville, which sort of broke in, as it were, the notion of superhero slash. That, and the source text has so much goddamn subtext.

*random drive-by* You know what? That's not weird at all. Het is cool. The slash pool is a great place to play, believe me, I enjoy a good wallow, but my real DCU pairings are het. Clark/Lois, Wally/Linda, Ralph/Sue (sigh)...wonderful relationships.

And I think I have a Tim/Cissie thing, but that's a sekrit. ;)

Tim/Cissie is nothing to be ashamed of! Don't hide your Tim/Cissie light under a bushel. They would be intense and driven and a little scary at each other, and Greta would watch and ponder the fact that if they became supervillains (which they totally could) she'd be their no. 1 minion.

I'm as gay as can be, but I like, well, everything! Well, not every *fic*, but gen, het, slash and femslash all make for a happy Grey Bard. Your pairings sound cool, and a person doesn't even need to be straight at all to see it.

You are not alone in the het, some of my OTP's:

Catwoman/Batman
Lois Lane/Superman
Mary Jane Watson/Spider-Man

Uh... well, they are the classics, not as interesting as yours :-D

Also, I've discovered a liking for Black Canary/Batman.

And you know what would be interesting Robin (Tim)/Lady Shiva. In the comics the first time they meet and they are on a adventure together and she is giving him some training as well, my god! The way she kept on touching him... very terratorial. She had definatly decided to lay claim to him. Wants to 'own' him. Tho' the 'ownership' might be more motherly in a way, which just makes it kind of perverse.

A bunch of people have already weighed in, so you already know this is true to some degree, but...

There are plenty of het 'shippers in this fandom, as well as the slightly less common Real Live Heterosexuals.

What's more, and one of the things I really enjoy about DC comics fanfiction fandom, many (if not most) of the people who read and write primarily slash also read and write het pairings, and the fandom largely fails to divide into separate groups. Certainly there's not a *fight* going on between advicates of different views of the characters. That's a wonderful thing, especially compared to fandoms where there was a bitter and hateful divide between fans of two different slash 'ships and almost no one could get along across the divide.

Everyone's welcome here, so long as they're as tolerant of others' tastes (in fiction and otherwise) as they'd like to be treated themselves. I for one feel fandom is enriched by including people who are heterosexual themselves, prefer het 'ships, or both.

And I'm about as far from monosexual as it's possible to get. (:,
